Precautions of Bone Marrow Aspiration
Bone Marrow Aspiration is a procedure in which a sample of the bone marrow is collected to aid with the cancer diagnosis.
Precautions of the Bone Marrow Aspiration procedure:
- The child must be fasting (no food or drinks) for 6 hours before the procedure
- If the child is extremely thirsty, then you may use a wet cloth or cotton to dab his/her lips
- If the procedure requires a Lumbar Puncture (a needle to the back), the patient must stop their antibiotics. Septrin and Augmentin must be stopped 2 days before the procedure
